The dark-skinned Zinfandel grape produces spicy and jammy red wines with high alcohol content and tannins ranging from supple to rugged. Zinfandel is one of oldest, if not the oldest, grape variety in California. Since the first vineyards were planted in the 1850s, California has been the only place in the world where Zinfandel grapes are grown.
